Thomas Butler of Cahir
Thomas Butler of Cahir (died 1476) 〔(Butlers of Cahir. )〕 was the great-grandson of James "Gallda" Butler who was the third son of James Butler, 3rd Earl of Ormond.〔''Lodge, Edmund'', "The genealogy of the existing British peerage with brief sketches of the family history of the nobility.", 1832, pg 159.〕
==Marriage and issue==
He married Catherine Power.〔Burke, John, ''A general and heraldic dictionary of the peerage and baronetage of the British Empire.'', Vol 1, pg 128.〕 He had two sons:
* Thomas Butler who was created Baron Cahir in 1543. This title became extinct on the death of his only son Edmund Butler, 2nd Baron Cahir in 1560.
* Piers Butler who was the father of Theobald Butler in whose favour the peerage was revived in 1583.〔''Lodge, Edmund'', "The genealogy of the existing British peerage with brief sketches of the family history of the nobility.", 1832, pg 160.〕
